Fifty Things That Please Me

This was a hard assignement! I really struggled!

1. Imagining the lives of my ancestors.

2. Going back to texts that have always been important for me, registering  the endless power of certain words to contribute to my life.

3. Sitting quietly at my desk surrounded by reference works, preparing a text of my own, or a class.

4. Returning to certain galleries in certain museums.

5. Films by Krzysztof Kieslowski, Kar Wai Wong, the Boulting Brothers or Eric Rohmer.

6. Listening to Classical music, especially opera, chamber and solo piano.

7. Seeing a really great play. Especially at the Comédie Française.

8. Sitting under the living room windows in a winter morning, the sun streaming in,  reading and smoking my pipe.

9. Cruising for hot, unknown boys.

10. Taking off their clothes and, seeing what they look like naked for the first time, getting that lovely burning-choaking sensation from throat to solar plexus.

11. Getting a sensational, smashing, stupendous blow job.

12. Writing a clear, short, pointed poem.

13.  Cooking a meal slowly, without anybody's "help", calmly drinking a bottle of wine as I proceed.

14. Smoking a pipe or a cigar whilst sitting alone in a room in absolute silence.

15. Drinking a steaming-hot glass of tea in a cold day.

16. Looking over old photographs of people I love.

17. Looking at objects that belonged to people I have loved.

18. Remembering things from my childhood, especially if they involved my mom.

19. Dressing up to the nines and going off to luncheon with LeBF.

20. Sitting next to LeBF whilst he plays the piano.

21. Sitting under the living room windows in a winter morning, the sun streaming in, making out with LeBF.

22. Seeing LeBF off his clothes, or giving him a bath, and getting that lovely burning-choaking sensation from throat to solar plexus.

23. Tying up LeBF and feeding him

 breakfast in bed.

24. Walking in a forest.

25. Petting and riding a horse or donkey.

26. Fencing and swimming.

27. Playing backgammon or tarot [the card game.]

28. When France is first or best at anything. [A common, natural occurrence.]

29. When England is seen as a has-been fraud. [i.e.: Truth revealed.]

30. That France's infant mortality rates, among the lowest in the world, are half those the US. [What an overrated bunch of rednecks.]

31. That France and Argentina are great in football, while England and the US are nothing.

32. That Canadians are so different from Americans.

33. Anything Japanese.

34. The indestructible courage and greatness of the Russian people.

35. The indestructible witness and endurance of Orthodoxy.

36. The subtle patience and understanding of people who love truly.

37. My lover's smell.

38. His hair.

39. The colour of his nipples.

40. That God made trees and put the nicest in the places where I've lived.

41. Gardenias such as there were in my grandmother's house.

42. Saint-Nectaire cheese, from the Auvergne region of FRANCE.

43. White apples from Montbéliard, in the Franche-Comté.

44. That I am a gay man.

45. That Barack Hussein Obama is President of the United States.

46. That Dumbya Bush and Dick Chaney might be indicted for war crimes.

47. That my adored baby thinks of me all the time.

48. That I can't ever forget my adored baby.

49. That Socrates was an Athenian in the Age of Alcibiades.

50. That Plato was his disciple.

Why do I get the sensation that I've said all this three-thousand times before? Am I becoming an ancient bromide?

34. The indestructible courage and greatness of the Russian people

Do you ever go and check out the Russia Magazine community?

http://community.livejournal.com/russiamagazine/profile

I can't read the Russian but every week or so they feature a beautiful photo essay. It gives people like me a wonderful look into Russia and it's people...bits of Russia that Westerners probably don't get to see.

I'll look into that. I'm shy of actually exchanging with Russians for several reasons, the clearest one being that my Russian is very primitive and limited. I can just make out the gist of a conversation. A text, of course, is different. I can read poetry with the help of a dictionary.

Well I only look at the pictures. I particularly liked this post on Russia's version of Woodstock....what the Russkies will go through to participate in an outdoor music concert.

All the photo features are great, I love the ones on the gypsies as well also the one on roofs of St Petersburg.

Even if I have heard some of those things before, I still enjoy reading a list that you've put together. The one I identify the most with is No. 6 which I know won't surprise you. (I'll pretend I haven't read No. 29 *scowls*).

Well, you 've still got the Isle of Man, and all their cats without tail.

I'd rather have the Isle of Boy, where all the cats have extra-long appendices.

Your meme is very sweet, and relaxing to read with nice images and scents.

You've rode a donkey? The thought of it, and even my question cracks me up. I used to ride horses all the time, but now I'm a scaredy-cat. I miss petting horses, they're beautiful animals.

I'm not familiar with the card game Tarot. I learned a poker game this Summer called Pusoy Dos, it's a lot of fun and addicting.

Riding a donkey is very restful. They go very slowly and it's a perfect way to admire the landscape. You know they are not going to become hysterical at the slightest provocation, like horses. This is very re-assuring in a mountainous settig!

That explains why donkeys are used for Grand Canyon tours.
Last night, I was watching a show that talked about the Millau Bridge. Have you ever been on it? I'm not afraid of heights, but you couldn't pay me to drive on that bridge.

Yes, I've been driven over it. The view is quite beauriful. I don't think it's higher than the Golden Gate Bridge, is it? It's a fixed land bridge. like an aqueduct. I am made more nervous by long, swaying bridges over water, like the Tappen Zee bridge, between Noo Yawk and Noo Joysey.

Tarots is a trump game, like a primitive form of bridge. The 21 arcana of the tarot deck are really a fixed trump suit; that's what all those weird picture cards are for. It's a very popular game in Southern and Eastern Europe.

I had never heard of Pusoy Dos. With LeBF I play Spite and Malice, which is a great game for two:

He's much, much better than me at most games. Like most musicians, he's good at math and has a photographic memory. I love Tarots because no one has to remind me "what's trumps?" every 20 minutes!

The only game I'm good at and beat him at all the time is backgammon. I LOVE BACKGAMMON!!

Even Cuba, a third world communist country, provides better healthcare than the USA...

Of course, the USA provides the very best care, to those who can aford it.

It's the bottom 50 million who don't rate even a migraine massage.

Not like these.

When was the last time you ate a snow-white apple, anyway?
